Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School–Michigan is committed to making seminary education as affordable as possible and understands that some students need additional assistance with their tuition costs.  Through generous donors, several scholarships are available to both new and returning students.  These are briefly described below.  If you have any questions about our scholarships, you can request a call from Anthony or Kristle (Admissions Counselors) or call 734-207-9581 ext. 304 


What scholarships are available for MTS–Michigan students?

MTS–Michigan provides tuition assistance to students through several new and expanded scholarship programs:

  • Financial Assistance Scholarship – Scholarships up to 33% of tuition costs are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need.
  • Diamond Scholarship – Provides new MTS–Michigan students a tuition paid 3 credit hour class when they register for at least 5 credit hours.
  • Timothy Scholarship – Provides a 33% tuition scholarship for students that are able to obtain 33% support from their church.  Scholarship also requires a mentoring relationship between a MTS–Michigan student and their pastor/church leader.
  • Merit Scholarship – Awarded annually by the MTS–Michigan faculty to students that perform exceptionally in their studies.  Scholarships range from $3,000 to $10,000 per year.

How do I apply for the Financial Assistance Scholarship?

Students interested in this scholarship must submit an application and meet the criteria below:

  • Scholarships are awarded to both new and returning students.
  • Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the semester. 
  • Student must be registered for at least 4 credit hours in the semester for which the scholarship is requested.
  • Student must have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
  • Student must demonstrate financial need.  Applicant must complete a FAFSA, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Contact our Business Office at 734-207-9581 for assistance and the school code.  A current Student Aid Report (SAR) must accompany the scholarship application.
  • Submit application to Business Office by established due date (see deadlines below).

How do I apply for the Diamond Scholarship?

Students meeting the criteria below will receive a $1,250 scholarship for tuition and fees provide they meet the following requirements:

  • Scholarships may not be available every semester.  Check with the Admissions Office for availability.
  • Scholarships are awarded to new students only; returning students do not qualify.
  • Student must request the DIAMOND scholarship on the request for information form or when speaking to an admissions counselor.
  • Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the semester. 
  • Student must take, for credit, at least 5 credit hours offered on campus.
  • Tuition and fees not covered by scholarship must be paid in full prior to the start of classes.
  • Student cannot audit or reduce to audit after the start of classes.
  • Student who drops courses are responsible for any prorated tuition and fees.
  • Student does not need to demonstrate financial need.
  • Scholarship cannot be used for independent studies or video classes.

How do I apply for the Timothy Scholarship?

Students interested in this scholarship must submit an application and meet the criteria below: 

  • Scholarships are awarded to both new and returning students.
  • Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the term/semester. 
  • Student must take courses for credit offered on campus.
  • Scholarship cannot be used for fees or textbooks.
  • Student cannot audit or reduce to audit after starting a course.
  • Student who drops courses or credits will be responsible for any prorated tuition and fees.
  • Student does not need to demonstrate financial need.
  • Student must complete a Timothy Scholarship application each semester/term.
  • Student must establish and maintain a mentoring relationship with church pastor or church leader.
  • Scholarship will cover 33% of tuition. 
  • Scholarship is contingent on receiving 33% support from the student’s church or other supporter.
  • Submit application to Business Office by established due date (see deadlines below).

May I apply for a Merit Scholarship?

No, these scholarships are awarded annually by the faculty in August.  Students interested in these scholarships, however, should express their interest to their faculty advisor before the end of the academic year. 


What are the scholarship application deadlines?

All scholarship applications (including required supporting documentation) are due approximately one month prior to the start of the semester/term for which the scholarship applies.  Students applying for Fall semester scholarships must apply by August 1, Winter semester by December 1, and Spring/Summer term by April 1 each year.  Applicants will be notified of scholarship awards/denial within two weeks of these dates.
