Theme Verses

Luke 10:38-42

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Main areas of need

The women of SIT affirm the excellent education that we have received at Michigan Theological Seminary.  We affirm the mission and values of MTS–Michigan, and desire to support it.  However, we see unique needs and desires in the lives of women as a minority group on the campus.  The main areas of need that the leadership of SIT has identified are as follows:

Women need other Women—Women need to interact with other women.  Women need to fellowship with a community of other women.  Women need to be mentored by other women.  Women need older, godly, more experienced women who have gone on the path before them to guide them as they move forward into life and ministry.

Women need to discern their gifts and calling—In a confusing time, women need to hear from the Lord about who they are in Christ and how God wants to use them for His kingdom.  Women need confirmation from other godly men and women about their giftedness and life mission.  Women need support and encouragement to fully pursue their calling and to value the contribution of singleness or marriage to ministry.

Women need healing in their personal lives before they can minister to others—Seminary can often promote intellectual growth alone, and only community can help to heal past wounds and form a new spiritual identity that can support the important work being done in the classroom.
