Scholarships

Moody Theological Seminary–Michigan is committed to making seminary education as affordable as possible and understands that some students need additional assistance with their tuition costs. Through generous donors, scholarships are available to both new and returning students.  If you have any questions about our scholarships or need assistance in completing any of the applications, contact the Admissions Office at 734-207-9581, ext. 302 or 304. 


What scholarships are available for MTS–Michigan students?

MTS–Michigan provides tuition assistance to students through the following scholarship programs:

  • Timothy Scholarship – Seminary matches a maximum of 33% for students who are able to obtain up to 33% support from their church. Scholarship also requires a mentoring relationship between a MTS–Michigan student and their pastor/church leader.
  • Need/Merit Scholarship – Award amounts are $1,000 to $3,000 per year based on need and merit.
  • Partnership Organization Discount  – 25% off tuition with prior/current involvement in a campus ministry.

Timothy Scholarship
Students interested in this scholarship must submit an application and meet the criteria below:
• Scholarships are awarded to both new and returning students.
• Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the term/semester.
• Student must take courses for credit offered on campus.
• Scholarship cannot be used for fees or textbooks.
• Student cannot audit or reduce to audit after starting a course.
• Student who drops courses or credits will be responsible for any prorated tuition and fees.
• Student must maintain a GPA of 2.5 while carrying 15 credit hours in an academic year
• Student must complete a Timothy Scholarship application each semester/term.
• Student must establish and maintain a mentoring relationship with church pastor or church leader.
• Scholarship will match up to 33% of student’s tuition.  
• Scholarship is contingent on receiving up to 33% support from the student’s church or other supporter. Student is responsible for remaining balance.
• Submit application to the Financial Aid Office, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60610, by established due date (see deadlines below).

Need/Merit Scholarship
Current students
interested in this scholarship must submit an application and meet the criteria below:
• Scholarships are awarded to both new and returning students.
• Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the term/semester.
• Scholarship cannot be used for fees or textbooks.
• Student cannot audit or reduce to audit after starting a course.
• Student who drops courses or credits will be responsible for any prorated tuition and fees.
• Student does need to complete FAFSA application
 www.fafsa.ed.gov 
• Student must enroll for 15 credits per academic year
• Student will only be awarded for a maximum of 5 years
• Applications should be submitted to the Financial Aid Office, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60610.

Partnering Organization Discount
Interested students must submit a letter to the Admissions Office from campus ministry staff indicating involvement and meet the criteria below:
• Scholarships are awarded to new and returning students.
• Student must be accepted as a graduate student prior to the start of the term/semester.
• Scholarship cannot be used for fees or textbooks.
• Student cannot audit or reduce to audit after starting a course.
• Student who drops courses or credits will be responsible for any prorated tuition and fees.
• Student does not need to demonstrate financial need.
• Student must enroll in at least 15 credit hours per academic year and maintain a GPA of 2.5
• Awarded amount will equal 25% of the tuition costs the student occurs in an academic year
• Must have been involved in a partnering ministry in the year prior to attending MTS.
• Letters from campus ministry staff should be submitted to the Admissions Office, 820 N. LaSalle Blvd., Chicago, IL 60610.

 


What are the scholarship application deadlines?

All scholarship applications (including required supporting documentation) are due approximately one month prior to the start of the semester/term for which the scholarship applies.  Students applying for Fall semester scholarships must apply by August 1, Spring semester by December 1, and Summer term by April 1 each year. Applicants will be notified of scholarship awards/denial within two weeks of these dates.
