Is MTS an Evangelical Seminary?

Yes, Moody Theological Seminary would be identified as an Evangelical Seminary in the sense that it is in conformity with the basic tenets of orthodox faith and a missionary outreach of compassion and urgency to evangelize the lost people of this world.

Taken from the Greek word evangelion, meaning glad tidings or good news, evangelical refers to the announcement of the good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. The gospel is defined in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 as the message that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day in fulfillment of the Scriptures thereby providing the way of redemption for sinful humanity.

Further, evangelicals regard Scripture to be the divinely inspired record of God’s revelation, the infallible, authoritative guide for faith and practice. Evangelicals share the beliefs of orthodox Christianity among which are the Trinity; the deity and virgin birth of Jesus Christ; the resurrection of Christ from the dead, the Second Return of Christ, and the eternal damnation of the lost and eternal heavenly bliss of the saved.
